She also attended Mount Zion United Pentecostal Church, where she often added a special touch to the service by singing hymns. Mrs. Chester was a woman of many talents. She was a self -taught musician and played the guitar, piano and organ. As a young woman, she often sang at social events with her sister, Azzie Lee. She truly exemplified all the qualities of a Proverbs 31 woman. She had the unique ability to duplicate the style of any piece of clothing and was able to make all her children's clothes by merely looking at a photograph, including delicate embroidery, dresses amd evening gowns and overalls. She never questioned her station in life but faced every hardship with an attitude of assurance that she could accomplish whatever she needed to do. From herding and milking cows, slaughtering hogs and turning the fat into lye soap with which she washed her family's clothes, sawing and nailing boards to build the family home or killing squirrels to fry for supper, she worked tirelessly to provide for her family. From her first years of marriage until her youngest children were grown, she maintained a vegetable garden from which she stored enough food to last until the next planting season. She always had time to pick wild flowers, search for treasures and play hopscotch with her children.
