Airport Cemetery
Visited 2/19/2001, transcribed by Vickie Stevens
This is small plot located on the corner of Capital
Circle SW and Springhill Road. It’s right at the beginning of the runway,
where the planes land, on a small hill. In fact the airport built its runway
around the cemetery. It’s county owned and was part of a pauper’s cemetery.
It’s over grown with weeds and has many snake holes. You can see many impressions
of graves that have sunken into the ground. It’s surrounded by chain link
fence placed there by the city to block it from the runway and field around
the runway. All the graves face the airplanes as land and if it was cleared
and maintained it would be the first thing visitors see when they arrive
in Tallahassee Fl!
