November 17, 1998

Again there have been several updates that were small and so were not mentioned here. Now we have some great news to mention! Several records have been added.

You will also notice that the background on all except the main pages of the site have been changed. We did this is hopes of cutting down on the download time of the pages. As always, if anyone has trouble, please let us know!

September 26, 1998

There have been a lot of updates and some great new things for Holmes County researchers! To get the full benefit, visit the pages with updates and check out the new information! A new page has been added too!

LOOK-UPS -
This is a new page. So far we have one volunteer who will do limited look-ups for us. Please be considerate of her time!

RESOURCES -
There has been a great new addition to the resource page! Take a look at the Land Patent site. It has some great listings of property owners in .tif format!

Once again there have been some updates around the Holmes County site. These are not major, but hopefully, they are helpful. As always, we invite suggests for improvement. We're working on getting more information online. If you can volunteer materials or time, please let us know!

The RootsWeb mailing list server is back at work with upgraded equipment! Thanks to all those who keep that all running!

GenConnect seems to be doing a great job with it new capabilities. Thanks to all who worked on this!

RECORDS -
"Census Enumeration Descriptions" for the years 1900, 1910 and 1920 have been submitted by Cindy who is the CC of Washington County, FL. Thanks Cindy!

Parts of Rootsweb mailing list server is down. The Holmes County mailing list may not be going out right now. If not, it should be back no later than Wednesday, according to what we have been told.

September 09, 1998
There hasn't been as much new stuff added as we would like, but many things are in the works! Stay tuned for them to pop up at any time. If you have information or file submissions you want to put with the Holmes County pages, we welcome them with open arms!

REUNION page or not? - Notice the "reunion" notice for the PITTS family. We are thinking of placing a reunion page with the county pages. We would like your input on this matter. If there aren't enough to warrant a whole page, I may be able to just keep using the space on the main page for the reunion posts. But if enough people feel that a reunion page is warranted, then by all means, it will go up! :)

SURNAMES -
There have been some new surnames added to the Surname page. Of course we are still looking for surname submissions. Please follow the directions for submission. I enter them by hand and it would help me out a lot! Thanks!

GenConnect -
The GenConnect system has changed the way queries are submitted. It now provides a place to input surnames. As always, the surnames will show up when doing a search of the entire GenConnect system. The new feature makes it easier for the system to keep up with the surnames listed in the post. Please go to the GenConnect site to learn more. And please make use of the new feature! It will come in handy for yourself and those researching the same names!

August 19, 1998

Ann and I want to thank all those who have welcomed us on board. Also thank you to all who have already submitted information for the site. We have cemetery records in the works...and we've recently found some marriage records which we are trying to get permission to use. We would like to start a census index. Is there anyone out there with the time who is willing to either gather information on census records for others to transcribe or any one who is willing to transcribe them for the site? Also if anyone has information on Civil War records, this would be a nice addition as well. We will be adding links to various Florida Civil War sites soon, but we would still like to try to get an index for Holmes County.

RECORDS -
Duke Vickrey has updated his Land Tract records for Holmes County and is working on other counties in the West Florida area as well. You will find a link on the Records page for the Holmes County land records and a link for Duke's page. Pay him a visit, he may have something you've been looking for!

Also on the Records page notice the link for "Courthouse Fires". The Holmes County courthouse has burned several times. Ann and I are searching out as much information as we can find concerning these fires and possible locations of any records that may have survived. Any information you may have to add to this, please email us.

August 08, 1998

Ann and I have had a blast the past couple weeks getting the Holmes County pages ready and online. We started out with basic pages; main page, query, guestbook and such. Over the past week we have started to slowly add pages and information.

SURNAMES -
There is a Surname page that anyone with a Holmes County ancestor who had an event in Holmes County can submit to us email or through this list. The directions are on the page. This may also be changing in the future.

LINKS -
We have moved the links from the main page to a page of their own. Anyone can also submit links through email or through this page to be added. We've also added a few more this past week.

RESOURCES -
We have put up a page for Resources on and off the net. This is another area that we hope you all will contribute any information you feel might help other Holmes County researchers.

RECORDS -
Ann is in the process of transcribing several cemetery records. As soon as she is able to get them done we will put those online under the Records page. We are also searching for other records of interest to Holmes County researchers. If you have records you are willing to donate, but don't have the time to transcribe them, let us know. We will find a way to get them online.
