Listed below is a cross-reference to the number that is used to identify the county on some of the FL Death Indexes. This listing is courtesy of Brian Michaels. Also, at the bottom of the county listing, is another chart which cross-references numbers to an individual's race and sex. Brian has gone on to state that this index begins in 1877 and the first section covers 1877 - 1916; the second series is 1917 - 1922; thereafter, for a while, at least, it's year-by-year until much later. The holdings from 1877 - 1916 are not really numerous enough to get excited about, but -- like all potential sources -- should not be passed over. These records are not exhaustive; some people from the 1930's and 1940's sometimes do not appear, and he's certain that some were missed earlier this year. It is also well to remember that death certificates are SECONDARY RECORDS and full of "don't know's" as well as misinformation. (E-mail dated 4/15/99, to the FLORIDA-L@rootsweb.com)
